The American Dream Is Getting Smaller, And The Reason Why Is Painfully Obvious...most Americans are currently up to their necks in red ink…

John....excellent !
Same here, debt free and a savings account !
Always paid in cash for EVERYTHING ! Did my own maintenance on homes, cars etc. not afraid to get myself dirty.
From plumbing, electrical thru roofing, to masonry work. I've done it !
Age is slowing me down now, and now I HAVE TO LEARN how to employ people, to do things FOR ME.
I Never believed in credit cards !  Have NONE ! Always lived the GOOD LIFE ! Stress free ! So blessed !
One should always live by this basic rule BELOW !
Basic 'Pie chart' of..... 'YOUR INCOME'....(most people violate this "LAW" !)

(IMPORTANT......NEVER save LESS than 25% of your income, a month !)

The government schools do not teach personal finance or responsibility.
Advertising overcomes rational judgement.
"I want".... rules the uneducated.
If you don't understand what interest rates can do to, you don't borrow money.

I have lived my life and almost always paid cash. Save, save, save. Don't buy if you must borrow.
I didn't go into debt for college or cars.
I didn't buy a nice house, but bought a fixer upper. Lots of work yielded huge profit. My next home I built with little hired help. It was paid for when it was finished a year later. We moved in with an unfinished interior.
A teachers salary we lived on. 4 years later we moved, sold that house for a huge profit and bought another on 20 acres with a small inexpensive home on it. Paid for in full by the sale of the previous debt free home. This pattern of life has kept me/us debt free for life on a one workers salary, me. Hard work and buying only what can be paid for without debt pays off.

You must avoid debt. Period. You must move to parts of the country where it costs less to live. It pays off to make wise choices.

Excellent post. This is why I become angry at gov.supported organizations like Feed the Piggie.org. telling persons it is all their fault why they have no money. This financialized system is beginning to collapse. It depends on persons being paid a living wage to pursue debt and collect that debt in a cost effective manner.Like billionaire Jim Sinclair I would advise persons to detach themselves from the system as much as possible.Example yesterday when a low payed cable technician came by to upgrade our cable system. For cash he gave us access beyond the cable plan.
The losers will be believers in big "Progressive" governments to supply them cradle to grave.Increasingly you will see them unwisely using their time to protest cuts marching in blue city streets with signs.I will be putting up supplies and taking possession and custody of my own assets.Just my thoughts.
