Hunt gather. Limited Wants, Unlimited Means

For roughly 99% of their existence on earth, Homo sapiens lived in small bands of

finding everything they needed to survive and thrive in the biological richness that surrounded them.

Most if not all of the problems that threaten our own technologically advanced society -- from depletion of natural capital to the ever-present possibility of global annihilation -- would be inconceivable to these traditional, immediate-return societies.

In fact, hunter-gatherer societies appear to have solved problems of production, distribution, and social and environmental sustainability that our own culture seems incapable of addressing.

Limited Wants, Unlimited Means examines the hunter-gatherer society and lifestyle from a variety of perspectives.

It provides a brief introduction to the rich anthropological and sociological literature on non-agricultural societies, bringing together in one volume seminal writings on the few remaining hunter-gatherer cultures including, the !Kung, the Hadza, and the Aborigines.

It examines the economics of traditional societies, and concludes with a multifaceted investigation of how such societies function and what they can teach us in our own quest for environmental sustainability and social equality.

Limited Wants, Unlimited Means is an important work for students of cultural anthropology, economic anthropology, environmental studies, and sustainable development, as well as for professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in prehistoric societies, environmental sustainability, or social justice.

EU ruling on Apple stirs calls for U.S. tax reform

A European Commission order requiring Apple Inc to pay Ireland $13 billion euros ($14.5 billion) in unpaid taxes on Tuesday drew swift rebukes from the Obama administration and lawmakers in Congress, while reigniting calls for U.S. tax reform.

They’re After Your Cash - LewRockwell

Fwd: They’re After Your Cash - (& Your Guns If Hillary Clinton Wins) LewRockwell

They're After Your Cash - (& Your Guns If Hillary Clinton Wins) LewRockwell

If the IRS has its way, cash will be a thing of the past. In its place, every transaction will be digital, every purchase will leave a footprint. And it will tell your story – where you go and what you buy while you are there.

A cashless society means your bank – and the US government – controls every penny you own and every purchase you make. They can freeze your account at will, leaving you destitute with just a few taps on a keyboard.

As Ron Paul said, "The cashless society is the IRS' dream: total knowledge of, and control over, the finances of every single American." (Enslavement)

Now you may ask, why? Simple answer, because cash is anonymous and almost impossible to track — so Uncle Sam cannot control it.

The move towards a cashless, controlled state has been in motion for decades. If you travel by air, you have experienced this first hand. "Cashless cabins" are the rule on nearly all airlines. Every glass of wine, extra cushion or headset must be purchased on credit. Every transaction is tracked, every purchase made subject to interest being tacked on to the principle.

According to Fed data, digital payments have risen from just $60 billion in 2010 to an enormous $619 billion this year. Some estimates show that80% of consumer purchases in the US are now electronic. Meanwhile, payments on a mobile device are rising at an 80% growth rate, predicted to account for $503 billion by 2020.

Other governments around the globe are even closer to a cashless society. In Sweden, cash transactions now account for just 2% of the economy. Denmark, Thailand, and South Korea follow closely behind. Bankers at The Bank of England have called for the abolition of money, and Germany has proposed a severe cash restriction.

But as we'll see in the case of Sweden, the cashless society is also used for something far scarier. By combining a cashless society and negative interest rates, they effectively flush out any hidden or saved wealth.

You can't save money, because negative interest rates mean you're paying the bank. You can't withdraw it, because it's useless in a cashless society. There's nowhere to hide.

Worse, withdrawing and holding large sums of cash is now considered suspicious. Already in America, carrying large sums of cash is enough for the Feds to consider you a criminal.

So much for the home of the brave, land of the free.

A more accurate description of a post-cash society was neatly summed up in The Atlantic, "A cashless society promises a world of limitation, control, and surveillance."

The US government hates cash so much, it is prepared to rob it from its own citizens.

Under the disguise of a "War on Drugs" or a "War on Terror, " they have clamped down on individuals storing, transferring, or carrying large amounts of cash through a procedure called civil forfeiture.

Just getting caught with a large wad of bills is enough for the Feds to consider you a drug lord or terrorist. Indeed, since 9/11 and despite some reforms, the Feds have confiscated $2.5 billion in cash from 61,998 seizures, roadside and elsewhere.

Not a single one was charged with a crime.

Meanwhile, this civil forfeiture money has been used by police departments to buy beer kegs, coffee makers, and – in one bizarre case –a clown.

In addition to the brutal civil forfeiture procedures, the government demands complex reporting requirements for any cash transactions over $10,000.

These measures are part of a grand design. The complete shift to a cashless society and total control over all finances.

Plus, digital transactions are good for business.

One study showed that vending machines equipped with a digital payment mechanism reaped 89% more revenue than those without. The CEO of SweetGreen – a Washington DC store that has adopted a "no-cash" policy – said that his employees now process 5%-15% more transactions per hour.

A cashless business cuts costs by reducing payroll (by utilizing automated checkouts). It eliminates the cost of armored car cash-collection, reduces accounting mistakes, and eliminates shrinkage. No cash on site means a lower risk of theft or strong arm robbery.

With such compelling benefits, businesses have drifted towards cashless transactions.

And Washington encourages this wave. There is NO federal law that prohibits businesses from refusing to accept cash (and state laws are either weak or non-existent).

"If you have to pay in cash, something is wrong"

According to Credit Suisse, this is the rule of thumb in Scandinavia. Paying in cash has now become suspicious.

Sound familiar? It's strikingly similar to the US government's "War on Cash" attitude. If you're carrying cash, it must be linked to drugs or terror.

Since when did carrying legal tender make you a suspect?

Sweden has gone further than any country so far, passing legislation that allows businesses to ban cash payments. Swedish buses, for example, no longer accept cash. Homeless street vendors take card or mobile payments and even churches prefer a digital donation. 900 banks don't even hold cash on site any more, and many Swedes are forced to make a 20km trip to find an ATM.

Worse, Sweden has adopted a negative base interest rate. Their citizens are paying the banks to look after their savings.

Picture this: you can't save your money at the bank because it now costs you to do so. But you can't withdraw it because cash is now redundant. Worse, you are now considered suspicious!

Your only option is to spend it electronically, which is exactly what central banks (including the Federal Reserve) want. They are trying to flush out your wealth.

Not on our watch.

What can you and your family do?

Holding a small "cash stash" in a safe place – enough to pay your personal expenses for a few months – is still a prudent strategy, just in case.

However, as the noose tightens, carrying (or paying with) large sums of cash will become more and more suspicious. Rather than holding your money in paper bills, which as Voltaire said "…eventually returns to its intrinsic value – zero," one option is to diversify with a store of gold overseas.

Held outside America in a private vault, gold is immune to US government seizures, and – if done correctly – can be held anonymously. Moreover, as the US clamps down on cash, gold may enjoy a rise in value due to demand for an alternative hard wealth asset.

Of course, if you've reached the end of your tether – fed up of being treated like a criminal for holding cash, and having your digital footprint tracked with every card payment, there is another option. A second passport will help you find the freedoms that Uncle Sam has taken away. There's never been a better time to plan your escape.

Science College Classes

Most universities offer a long list of science classes that are often well taught and not so crowded.
You can learn more by taking only 1 class at a time and carefully memorizing the textbooks and materials and doing all the labs correctly.
Phd type research often requires in-depth knowledge of 1 field more than the smattering of dissimilar topics covered in most undergraduate programs.
Sometimes you will need to know 2 or 3 fields.
Colleges do not put the right knowledge into the same departments or classes so it is hunt and peck to find the right balances.
Curricula get organized by history and personalities of past teachers.
Part of research is trying to figure out what is relevant for problems that society faces now.

Taking 1 or 2 classes at a time also greatly saves tuition and fees.
You can work and organize your daily schedule better around only 1 class.
You will also have time to go to the gym and getting enough of a variety of sports and exercises.
The brain can grow about 3% per year with enough exercise.

If you can drive out into the country you can have a little farm and grow your own food and do research on plants and animals and maybe make some $ off those plants and animals.
Research into biology and agriculture can be very valuable.
Most people nowadays have very bad diets and exercise habits..
So health insurance and medical care is far too expensive.
And people cannot think or function very well.
A worldwide problem rapidly getting worse.
Plenty of research opportunities on how to solve small problems to improve farming, land use, city planning, business stability and profitability.

Then there is the big puzzle on how to prevent multiple major global catastrophes and extinctions.

Seems to me the first step would be to develop greenfields, grayfields, brownfields, lawns, golf courses,…
Convert them into gardens and farms so people can get exercise by growing fresh food in the cities where people already live.
This would save transporting food into the cities.
And the food they pick would be fresher and healthier.
And they would get exercise, electrons, fresh air, and sunshine, nitric oxide, Vitamin D....

Paris, 1787: It Reaches Manhattan, Doubtless Due to Continental Drift

Posted on August 18, 2016 by Fred Reed
It is easy to underestimate the peasantry, the little people. They appear well under control. All seems calm, unless one looks carefully. The means of control work smoothly: the legions, the church, the media, the secret police, the enforcers of political correctness.  The serfs are cowed. Why worry about a distant peonage? Do we not have our castles? Let us dance and drink champagne.

And comes the guillotine.

I know three young women of exceptional intelligence and talent, all of them mature and disciplined. They cannot find jobs. It is not from lack of trying, far from it. One of them is married to a hard-working man in a highly technical field usually associated with wealth. He is paid a low hourly wage and forced to work on contract, meaning that he has neither benefits nor retirement. His employers know that if he leaves, they can easily find another to take his place. They have him where they want him.

Which may prove a mistake.

Yet this is become a pattern. In a country that prides itself on wealth and justice and boundless opportunity, none of these things actually exists except for our Bourbons. The rich in their palaces in Manhattan and Santa Clara prosper mightily, often by impoverishing the rest. It has happened many times in history. The results have been similar.

The guillotine was devised as a humanitarian measure to cut off a criminal's head cleanly, the ax-wielding headsmen of the time being notorious for missed strokes and subsequent horror. When the meek and mild peasantry rose in 1789, proving to be less meek and mild than believed, the humanitarian aspects of the instrument were forgotten. The populace just wanted to see their betters bleed. They saw.

In the United States of today, clouds gather as the royalty toast each other with expensive wines. In numbers that a half century ago would have seemed impossible, the American young live with their parents, being unable to find jobs to support themselves. Waitressing in a good bar pays better in tips than a woman with a college degree can otherwise earn, assuming that she can earn anything at all. Employers having learned to hire them as individual contractors, they move into their thirties with no hope of a pension for their old age.

Desperation and hatred are close cousins.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Bezos of Amazon makes spaceships and buys the Washington Post as a toy and the newspapers have reported that a Croesus of Wall Street has bought a Modigliani, it may have been, for $55 million dollars.

Marie didn't actually say, "Let them eat cake," but might well have. Instead they ate her. But it can't happen here. Oh no.

The homeless in San Francisco are now described as "a plague." There seem to be ever more of them. But not to worry. Never worry. The stock market remains exuberant. In nearby Silicon Valley, a man buys a new Lamborghini every year.

The Russians simply shot their royal family in a basement in Ekaterinburg. The Romanovs, or at least those Romanovs, were actually nice people, very much an Ozzie and Harriet family. Perhaps if you met Bezos, or Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates or Elon Musk, you would find them charming, even decent. They probably give money to charity. So did Andrew Carnegie. The Romanovs just didn't pay enough attention. Neither, perhaps, do newer Romanovs.

Unrest breeds surprises. Maybe Louis XVI thought, "It can never happen here." Today the African population of America is openly insurgent, the middle class sinks, jobs continue leaving under the stewardship of the rich, the government either will not or cannot enforce its laws, the borders are open, half of the country seethes in fury at the other half, and the sale of guns is at record heights.

When people realize that they really have no country, only a collection of rapacious interests, history becomes…creative. In theory, Congress and the President have the well-being of the nation at heart and at least to some extent seek to effect the betterment of the whole. Really they are carrion birds picking the carcass clean and, perhaps, planning flight to the French Riviera.

Mussolini ended as an ornament in the Italian street, hanging upside down from a meat hook. He should have paid more attention.

A short walk from the Capitol in Washington, whole housing developments lie empty, their windows sometimes bricked up to keep the derelicts out. In abandoned houses turned shooting galleries, of which there are many, empty cans of Vienna sausages and old bottles of fortified wine lie among used needles and rags stained with things better not reflected upon. You can live for a surprising time on Vienna sausages, Night Train, and Ritz crackers. Many do. Their organs eventually fail.

No one sees these things, so they cannot be important. A forty-five minute walk away, in Colonial Village across Key Bridge in Virginia, I once bought an 835-square-foot condo for $140,000 and later sold it for $300,000. It is well that the economy flourishes. We live in a land of opportunity.

In this best of all possible worlds the wealthy buy homes for $100 million and sleep secure in their beds, knowing that only half of the country would love to hang them from lamp posts.
True, the rise of Donald Trump may disturb the elites a bit as they enrich themselves by sending more jobs abroad. But not to worry. Trump is only Mussolini by Disney and the fury his supporters feel toward New York and Washington will go away once we have Hillary in office. Fly-over land doesn't really matter anyway.

Unless of course it does. In which case Uber should stock up on tumbrils.

Kahn sharia DNC. Khizr

Kahn's we were talking about
The mainstream media and all of the DNC operatives are working overtime to destroy Donald Trump over his comments about "Gold Star Parents" Khizr Kahn and his wife. Well guess what, they are both longtime DNC supporters and fund raisers. Their son was killed in combat in 2004. The DNC didn't need them to speak at their convention in 2008, nor again in 2012. The DNC decided that they finally needed the Khan's to speak against the Republican candidate in 2016 (because the Dems are more afraid of Trump than they were of McCain or Romney).

This was Barack Obama with Khizr Khan's wife in 2009 at a White House dinner for big Democratic fund raisers and donors. She was not in her Muslim garb. And if you think they accidentally ended up at the DNC convention, think again. Khan is a Dem CON man, and prop of the Left. He's Muslim Brotherhood affiliated, and a law professor who teaches and practices Sharia law.

Until now, it looked like the Khans were just Gold Star parents who the big bad Donald Trump attacked. It turns out, however, in addition to being Gold Star parents, the Khans are financially and legally tied deeply to the industry of Muslim migration — and to the government of Saudi Arabia and to the Clintons themselves.
Khan used to work at the law firm Hogan Lovells, LLP, a major D.C. law firm that has been on retainer as the law firm representing the government of Saudi Arabia in the United States for years. The government of Saudi Arabia has donated heavily (over $25,000,000) to the Clinton Foundation over the past several years.
The firm also handles Hillary Clinton's taxes. A lawyer at Hogan & Hartson has been Bill and Hillary Clinton's go-to guy for tax advice since 2004, according to documents released by Hillary Clinton's campaign.
Now, aren't you glad that you listen to the mainstream media to get your daily dose of DNC propaganda disguised as 'news'?

Re: Armenian Iranian Americans in Los Angeles

I heard UCLA Professor Weber lecture that Middle Easterners are so war-like because the land is flat so they cannot protect from invading armies.
Always at war throughout history.
Egypt is more protected - desert and sea with only a narrow land bridge connecting.
India and China too remote and large smart populations that can defend themselves easily, usually.
Europe was invaded and settled by middle easterners which is why europeans are so war-like and crusaders and imperialists.

Native North Americans were the most remote and least war-like and partly civilized the invading europeans, at least for awhile
Unfortunately the invading Muslims and Mexicans and other warring tribes will convert North America into another conflict ridden war zone.

I was sitting in university library all day for weeks and studied some anthropology.
North American Native Americans were descended from Mongoloid Korea China peoples.
Intelligent and became more peaceful in North America.

Dozens of ancient skulls have been discovered in South America and none were Mongoloid.
Apparently Australian Aborigines, Borneo Headhunters, etc. found a way to float to South American and Mexico.
Mexico had problems similar to Europe and the Middle east, before arrival of Europeans.
Mexicans should stay in Mexico.

Liberals need to change their thinking.

Ruling elites are bringing in problems so they can seize more power while white trash, negroes, Mexicans, Muslims, and others are fighting each other.
Need to build a wall or no liberal welfare state will work.
USA Deteriorate into civil war, incessant violence, such as what has been going on in the Middle East for thousands of years.

> Armenian Iranian Americans in Los Angeles
> Interesting article. Most recent Armenian immigrants claim I look and sound (Armenian language) like a Turk. Armenians that arrived circa 1915 like other ethnic groups sought to settle, learn English, and become Americans. My father and most of my uncles were WW2 combat vets. My father's cousin was the most decorated marine of 1942. Victor "Transport" Maghakian (wikipedia) was seen on the front cover of "Man's" magazine and the subject of the movie "Gungho" starring Randolph Scott. One Armenian family I know that arrived here about twelve years ago from Yerevan is considering returning as the father has been offered a commission as an officer in the Russian military. I have been told he was in the Spetsnatz during the Russian Afghan war.

 Donald Trump: The Rorschach Candidate

Trump critics prove themselves to be mostly politically correct idiots. Recite irrelevant mantras. Erect straw man to attack while missing the whole point.

Trump has become the Rorschach candidate:

nondescript, vague rhetoric and empty platitudes.

He speaks in such generalities that his flip-flops can seem almost trivial.

He offers grandiose promises boiled down to simple concepts offered up with a hefty portion of adjectives: strong, great, big, huge, amazing.

The vagueness and empty rhetoric that troubles many is actually appealing to a wide swath of Americans.

Because Trump is a a vague ink blot of a candidate, voters are able to see whatever they want to see in him.

He's just defined enough on a few issues for voters to latch on to and the rest they simply fill in themselves.

Student debt betting huge. Building massive facilities and housing nearby that serve little social purpose.

Great if you need an empty university to research in. Lots of library and computer facilities. Summer is great. Except they waste too much fossil fuel on air conditioning so that buildings are way too cold. Like in the winter the buildings are way too hot.

Army of Chinese students getting orientated. Come thru in groups going from station to station. And some USA students too. Bank accounts, housing, food plans, social clubs, churches, etc.

Foreign students pay top dollar tuition so colleges want them. Spoiled only children from China. They may learn a little but it may just be a thing to do. It does help exports - export USA technology and culture. Get back some of the $ we sent to china to pay for iPhones and iPods

But trade deficit persists, very large.

People get lulled into complacency if the news quits reminding them of problems.

Eventually unsustainable trends will reverse. Perhaps Catastrophically. When nobody expects a crash

The stock market crashed in 2000 when Bush took over.
Then crashed again in 2008 as 8 years of stupidity could not be continued so the crash could be blamed on Obama.

Now in 2016 we have another election and perhaps even bigger changes are coming. Changes in the real economy mean some companies will be losers and others will be winners. Winners should get higher stock prices but losers stock prices will drop. Companies will go bankrupt, people will get fired and it will take time for winning companies to hire them. They may not have the right skills. It may take a long time for them to get jobs. So a recession, short or long.

Any stock price collapse will trigger derivatives which may lead to a bigger collapse. May expose worse problems. I suspect there are many new vulnerabilities creeping in during Obama

But billionaires are lining up behind Clinton so She may be able to provide continuity and avoid a big crash. Rich can continue to get richer and poor can continue to get poorer.

Trump may change something, though.
Wait until after the election to worry about politics.

I like cool foggy Oregon but it does not have a real beach culture or Spring Breaks that I might enjoy. I am probably going to start lifting weights again later this month as I have numerous gyms near my apartment now.

Inside 'Spornosexual Pride': a Mecca for men who treat their bodies as temples

The body is the temple of the holy spirit.

Brain and body are part of the same man.

Mental and physical health.

Men should look like men not couch potatoes.

Diet and exercise.

Set a good example.

I can spot addicts drunks and numerous mental and physical problems in seconds by appearance alone.

Chinese people getting 'taller and fatter'

It is quite obvious looking at the large number of Chinese students here that they are much taller than they were decades ago.

They are fatter too.

They also don't seem as intelligent.

I suspect the export of GMO CAFO junk foods to China and the change in their diet has made them fat sick and stupid.

Chinese should be studying traditional Chinese cooking and medicine instead of swarming into the USA to learn how to produce and ship junk foods.

The Curse of Cash

Paper money is needed to backup the electronic monetary system.
Each bill must have a serial number.
This can be easily audited.
Each use of cash must record which electronic bill was used for what transaction.

If SHTF and no electricity then clerks need to know how to count paper money and write down serial numbers that are used in each transaction.
Banks give out their paper money.

The Curse of Cash

Rogoff wraps his case in the flag. Of course. That's how you hook the rubes.

Rogoff's real agenda? To hand central banks complete control of the economy. Give them the power to make

So cash — your cash — is the shackle that binds them. Break the sBut Rogoff says that's "a major collateral benefit of phasing out paper currency."

Jim Rickards has said speeches, articles and books like these are signals elites use to coordinate policy amongst each other. They're like dog whistles, only they're out in the open

And Jim has called The Curse of Cash nothing less than "an elite manifesto for the final elimination of cash." Here Jim rips back the lid on the entire scheme:

The real reason is the power elite want to abolish currency so they can force everyone into the digital bank system. Once everyone is forced into the banks, it's easy to impose negative interest rates to confiscate your money. Paper money is the best way to avoid negative interest rates. So paper money must be abolished before the elite plan can be implemented. A cashless society forces everyone into digital bank accounts than can be taxed, frozen or stolen by negative rates. Getting savers into digital accounts is like rounding up cattle for the slaughter.

Would it shock you that Ben Bernanke endorsed Rogoff's book? A leading question, of course: "A fascinating and important book. Kenneth Rogoff sets out a compelling and wide-ranging argument for weaning our economies off paper money," says Ben.

Caveat lector: Consider the source. The man's as lost as last year's Easter eggs.

"This is not a book to be tossed aside lightly," LA Times sports columnist Sid Ziff (or was it Dorothy Parker?) supposedly wrote about a boo

The Curse of Cash is a book to be thrown down with great force.

rural on grid. Manila: Tausende Gefangene

One must be careful of living on acres to be self sufficient.
You need to be born there and grow up learning the tricks of the trade.

Even then you may be more on the grid than urban dwellers.
"rural water" comes thru long expensive pipes.

You will have to drive miles to a grocery store and pay higher prices for lower quality junk food.
Or be dependent on mail order.

Electricity is long expensive wires.

Any plumbing or contracting around the house is more expensive and needs fossil fuels to get people to your site.

You will watch dish TV full of bad influences.

Phone lines and internet connections are long and precarious.

Government roads.
Government rural electrification programs.
Government water.

Then people go crazy in the rural areas and die of heroin overdose or join the military to go to the holy land to get beheaded, dead bodies drug thru the streets, and hanged from bridges.

It is difficult to maintain people out in the poor rural areas.  Not many jobs.  Farms getting bigger and bigger to be competitive using huge machines needing complicated engineering that uneducated sheeple cannot understand.

China was right - move the sheeple off the farms into towers in the big city where they will be happier in debt playing games and working in high tech sweatshops.

You can't keep them down on the farm when they have seen Gay Hong Kong.

Dig up all the roads.  Convert USA back to grasslands and let the Bison roam free.

Convert to a vegetarian diet that requires much less water and area under cultivation.

Move holy cows and other domesticated animals back to where they came from.

Work to move all Jews, Muslims and Christians back to the Holy Land.

Return occupied USA back to the Native Americans.

Christianity has not been a great success in Philippines.  Nor have the Muslims.
